Make sure the garage door is fully closed if possible
Disconnect the garage door opener by pulling the emergency release cord
Pull the release cord straight down to disengage the opener
Lift the door slowly by hand from the bottom edge
Keep a firm grip and use both hands
Raise the door until it is fully open
Secure the door if it has a manual locking mechanism
Lower the door carefully by hand when closing
Reconnect the opener by pulling the emergency release cord toward the door until it re-engages
Test the opener after reconnecting
