Remove the stopper or drain cover
Unscrew the drain strainer if present
Insert a drain key or drain wrench into the crossbars
Turn counterclockwise to loosen the drain
Use pliers if the drain is stuck
Apply penetrating oil to stubborn threads
Lift out the drain assembly once loosened
Clean any debris from the drain opening
