Craft or find sugarcane
Find a block of dirt, grass, sand, or mud
Make sure the block is directly next to water
Hold the sugarcane in your hand
Place the sugarcane on the block next to the water
Wait for it to grow
Harvest the top sections when it reaches full height
Replant the harvested sugarcane on the same spot
