Set up the board with hex tiles, number tokens, and the robber
Each player chooses a color and takes matching settlements, cities, roads, and resource cards
Place two settlements and two roads on the board in the initial setup
Collect starting resources from the second settlement placement
On your turn, roll two dice
Give resource cards to players with settlements or cities adjacent to hexes matching the dice roll
If a 7 is rolled, players with more than 7 cards discard half, then move the robber
Move the robber to a new hex and steal one resource card from a player with a settlement or city adjacent to that hex
Spend resources to build roads, settlements, cities, or development cards
Build roads using brick and lumber
Build settlements using brick, lumber, wool, and grain
Upgrade settlements to cities using grain and ore
Buy development cards using wool, grain, and ore
Use development cards according to their effects
Trade with other players or with the bank
Trade with the bank at a 4:1 ratio, or better with ports if you have access
Expand your network to create new settlement spots and connect roads
Earn victory points from settlements, cities, development cards, and special cards
Win by reaching 10 victory points on your turn
