Stop if you have pain, swelling, deformity, numbness, or limited movement
Do not force the thumb to pop
Gently move the thumb through its normal range of motion
Open and close the hand slowly
Flex and extend the thumb at the knuckle
Rotate the thumb in small, controlled circles
Stretch the thumb gently away from the palm
Warm the hand with a warm compress for a few minutes
Massage the thumb and surrounding hand muscles lightly
Rest the thumb if it feels irritated
Seek medical care if the thumb keeps locking, clicking, or hurting
