Measure the door opening
Choose a storm door size that fits the opening
Gather tools and hardware
Remove the storm door from the packaging
Check that the frame is square and level
Hold the door frame in the opening
Mark the hinge and latch locations
Drill pilot holes where needed
Attach the hinge side of the frame
Shim the frame if necessary
Secure the top and latch sides of the frame
Install the door closer
Install the handle and latch hardware
Hang the storm door on the hinges
Test the door swing and latch
Adjust the closer, latch, and alignment
Caulk around the exterior frame if needed
Tighten all screws and final hardware
