Drink 16–24 oz (500–700 mL) of water right away
Sip steadily instead of chugging if you feel nauseous
Use an oral rehydration solution or electrolyte drink
Eat salty foods or a light snack with sodium
Drink more fluids after sweating, vomiting, diarrhea, or heat exposure
Choose water plus electrolytes over plain water if dehydrated from heavy sweating or illness
Avoid alcohol
Limit caffeine until rehydrated
Rest in a cool place
Seek medical help if you have confusion, fainting, severe weakness, no urination, or can’t keep fluids down
