Strip the bedding and place it in a sealed plastic bag
Wash sheets, pillowcases, and blankets on the hottest safe setting
Dry all bedding on high heat for at least 30 minutes
Vacuum the mattress, bed frame, baseboards, and nearby floor thoroughly
Empty the vacuum contents into a sealed bag and discard it outside
Inspect seams, tufts, cracks, and crevices for bugs and eggs
Use a stiff brush to dislodge bugs from mattress seams and bed frame joints
Apply a bed bug–labeled treatment only as directed on the product label
Encase the mattress and box spring in bed bug–proof covers
Reduce clutter around the bed to remove hiding places
Seal cracks and gaps in walls, floors, and furniture
Repeat cleaning and inspection regularly for several weeks
Contact a licensed pest control professional if the problem persists
