Blot up as much urine as possible with clean paper towels or a dry cloth
Do not rub the carpet
Mix equal parts white vinegar and water
Apply the solution to the affected area
Blot again with clean towels
Sprinkle baking soda over the damp area
Let it sit until completely dry
Vacuum the baking soda thoroughly
Use an enzymatic pet urine cleaner on the spot
Follow the cleaner’s label instructions
Repeat treatment if the odor remains
Test any cleaner on a hidden area first
Avoid using steam cleaners on urine stains
Replace the carpet padding if the smell persists
Wash any nearby washable items that may have absorbed the odor
