Turn off power to the disposer at the breaker
Unplug the disposer if it is cord-connected
Disconnect the dishwasher drain hose if attached
Place a bucket or towel under the sink
Remove the drain trap and discharge pipe from the disposer
Loosen the mounting ring or snap ring under the sink
Support the disposer with one hand while releasing it
Twist the disposer counterclockwise to unlock it from the sink flange
Lower the disposer carefully and remove it
Remove the sink flange and mounting assembly if needed
Clean the sink opening and remove old plumber’s putty
Cap or reconnect any remaining plumbing as required
Restore power only after installation or repairs are complete
