Clear the room of furniture, rugs, and obstacles

Remove baseboards or trim if they overlap the tile
Locate a starting point at a broken tile, edge, or loose section
Break the first tile with a hammer and chisel or a floor scraper
Pry up loosened tiles with a floor scraper, pry bar, or chisel
Work in small sections across the floor
Remove remaining thinset or mortar with a scraper, chisel, or flooring removal tool
Use a hammer drill with a chisel bit for stubborn areas if needed
Sweep and vacuum debris frequently
Inspect the subfloor for damage after tile removal
Remove nails, screws, or adhesive residue from the subfloor
Repair or level the subfloor before installing new flooring
Dispose of tile debris in heavy-duty bags or a dumpster
Clean the area thoroughly after all tile is removed
