Clear the room of furniture and items
Remove baseboards or shoe molding if needed
Find a corner or edge of the carpet
Use pliers or a utility knife to lift the carpet edge
Grip the carpet and pull it up in strips
Cut the carpet into manageable sections if necessary
Roll up each section as you go
Remove the carpet padding underneath
Pull up any staples, tack strips, or nails
Dispose of the carpet and padding properly
Wear gloves and use caution with sharp tools
