How To Reset Check Engine Light?

Turn the ignition OFF.

Locate the vehicle’s OBD-II port (usually under the dashboard near the steering column).

Plug an OBD-II scan tool into the port.

Turn the ignition to ON (engine OFF).

Use the scan tool to select “Read Codes” and “Clear/Erase Codes.”

Confirm the codes are cleared.

Turn the ignition OFF, then ON again to verify the light is off (or that codes no longer return).

If you don’t have a scan tool, disconnect the negative battery terminal for 10–30 minutes, then reconnect and start the engine.

After clearing/resetting, drive the vehicle for a short period (or complete a normal drive cycle) to allow the system to re-check emissions.

If the check engine light returns immediately, read the codes again and address the underlying issue.
