Fix the underlying issue first
Turn the ignition to the ON position without starting the engine
Press the gas pedal all the way down and release it three times within five seconds
Turn the ignition off
Start the engine and check whether the light is off
Disconnect the negative battery terminal for 10 to 15 minutes
Reconnect the battery terminal
Start the vehicle and verify the light is reset
Use an OBD-II scanner to clear the trouble codes
Drive the vehicle for a short period to confirm the light stays off
