Soak the whetstone if required by the manufacturer
Place the stone on a stable, non-slip surface
Identify the knifeās edge angle
Hold the knife at the correct angle against the stone
Start with the coarse side of the stone if the edge is dull
Draw the blade across the stone from heel to tip
Apply light, even pressure
Repeat the same number of strokes on both sides
Keep the angle consistent throughout each stroke
Move to the finer side of the stone
Repeat the sharpening strokes on the finer grit
Check for a burr along the edge
Remove the burr with lighter alternating strokes
Clean the knife after sharpening
Rinse and dry the whetstone after use
Store the stone and knife safely
