Stop what you are doing and rest in a dark, quiet room
Close your eyes and avoid bright light, screens, and flickering light
Drink water
Eat a light snack if you have not eaten recently
Take any prescribed migraine medication as directed
Take an over-the-counter pain reliever if you normally use one and it is safe for you
Use a cool compress on your forehead or eyes
Avoid driving or operating machinery until your vision returns to normal
Track the time the visual symptoms start and how long they last
Seek urgent medical care if vision loss is in only one eye, symptoms last longer than usual, or you have weakness, trouble speaking, severe headache, or new symptoms
Contact a doctor if this is your first ocular migraine or if episodes are becoming more frequent
