Drink small sips of water or oral rehydration solution often
Eat bland foods such as bananas, rice, applesauce, toast, crackers, or plain noodles
Avoid dairy, greasy foods, spicy foods, alcohol, caffeine, and very sugary drinks
Rest and let your stomach settle
Try over-the-counter loperamide if you are an adult and do not have fever or blood in the stool
Try bismuth subsalicylate if appropriate for you and you are not allergic to aspirin
Wash hands often to prevent spreading infection
Stop eating solid food briefly if it worsens symptoms, then restart with bland foods
Seek medical care if diarrhea lasts more than 2 days, or if you have fever, blood in stool, severe pain, signs of dehydration, or are pregnant, elderly, or immunocompromised
