Blot up any wet dye immediately with paper towels or a clean white cloth
Do not rub the stain
Mix a few drops of dish soap with warm water
Dab the stain with the soapy solution using a clean cloth
Blot with a dry cloth to lift the dye
Repeat with fresh cloths until no more color transfers
Apply a small amount of white vinegar to the stain if needed
Blot again with a clean cloth
Use 3% hydrogen peroxide on light-colored carpet if the stain remains
Test hydrogen peroxide on an hidden area first
Dab the area, then blot dry
Rinse the spot with a little clean water
Blot until the carpet is as dry as possible
Sprinkle baking soda on the area to absorb remaining moisture
Vacuum once dry
Use a carpet stain remover if the stain is still visible
Repeat the process as needed
