Turn off the engine and remove the key
Put the car in park and engage the parking brake
Open the hood
Locate the battery
Put on gloves and safety glasses
Identify the negative terminal marked with a minus sign
Loosen the negative terminal clamp
Remove the negative cable and move it aside
Identify the positive terminal marked with a plus sign
Loosen the positive terminal clamp
Remove the positive cable and move it aside
Remove any battery hold-down bracket or strap
Lift the battery straight up and out of the tray
Keep the battery upright while carrying it
Place the battery on a stable surface
Dispose of or recycle the battery properly
