Complete the California Certificate of Title with the seller’s and buyer’s information
Have the seller sign the title exactly as shown on the title
Have the buyer sign the title if required
Complete the odometer disclosure if the vehicle is under 10 years old
Complete a Bill of Sale if needed
Complete a REG 262 Vehicle/Vessel Transfer and Reassignment Form if the title has no space for transfer details
Complete a smog certification if required
Submit the transfer to the California DMV
Pay the title transfer fee and any applicable taxes or registration fees
Provide proof of insurance if registering the vehicle
Submit the application within 10 days of the transfer if required
Keep copies of all signed documents for your records
