Drink small sips of water, oral rehydration solution, or clear fluids often
Rest as much as possible
Eat bland foods if tolerated, such as toast, rice, bananas, applesauce, or crackers
Avoid alcohol, caffeine, greasy foods, spicy foods, and dairy if they worsen symptoms
Wash hands frequently to prevent spreading the infection
Stay home and avoid preparing food for others until symptoms improve
Use over-the-counter fever or pain medicine only as directed on the label
Seek medical care if you cannot keep fluids down, have signs of dehydration, severe abdominal pain, blood in vomit or stool, high fever, or symptoms lasting more than a few days
