Cool the burn under cool running water for 20 minutes
Remove rings, watches, or tight clothing near the area
Do not pop the blister
Do not apply ice, butter, toothpaste, or oily creams
Gently wash the area with mild soap and water
Pat dry with a clean cloth
Cover with a sterile, non-stick bandage or clean gauze
Keep the blister clean and protected from friction
Take over-the-counter pain relief if needed, following label directions
Watch for signs of infection such as redness, swelling, pus, or fever
Seek medical care for large blisters, severe burns, burns on the face, hands, feet, genitals, or joints, or if the burn was caused by chemicals or electricity
