Wash your hands and the finger with soap and water
Clean the area with rubbing alcohol or antiseptic
Sterilize tweezers and a needle with rubbing alcohol
If the splinter tip is visible, grip it with tweezers and pull it out in the same direction it entered
If the splinter is under the skin, gently lift the skin with the sterilized needle to expose the tip
Use tweezers to remove the exposed splinter
Wash the area again after removal
Apply antibiotic ointment if available
Cover with a bandage if needed
Seek medical help if the splinter is deep, broken, near the nail, or cannot be removed easily
Seek medical help if there is redness, swelling, pus, severe pain, or fever
