Call emergency services immediately
Expose the wound
Place the tourniquet 2 to 3 inches above the bleeding site
Place it above the wound, not over a joint
Wrap the strap tightly around the limb
Pull the strap as tight as possible
Secure the tourniquet
Twist the windlass until the bleeding stops
Lock the windlass in place
Note the time the tourniquet was applied
Do not remove the tourniquet
Get the person to emergency care as soon as possible
