Wash your hands thoroughly
Rinse the wound with clean water
Stop any bleeding with gentle pressure
Dry the skin around the wound
Open the butterfly bandage
Pull the wound edges together
Place the bandage across the wound to hold the edges closed
Apply additional strips if needed for support
Keep the bandage dry and clean
Replace it if it becomes wet, dirty, or loose
Watch for signs of infection such as redness, swelling, pus, or worsening pain
Seek medical care if the wound is deep, wide, bleeding heavily, or will not stay closed
