Move away from the wasp to avoid more stings
Check the area for a stinger and remove it if present
Wash the sting site with soap and water
Apply a cold pack or ice wrapped in cloth for 10–15 minutes at a time
Elevate the affected area if possible
Take an over-the-counter pain reliever if needed
Use an antihistamine for itching or swelling if appropriate
Apply hydrocortisone cream or calamine lotion for skin irritation
Avoid scratching the sting site
Monitor for signs of a severe allergic reaction
Call emergency services immediately if there is trouble breathing, swelling of the face or throat, dizziness, or widespread hives
Seek medical care if symptoms worsen, the sting is in the mouth or throat, or signs of infection develop
