Open the Messenger app
Open the chat you want to change
Tap the person’s name or the chat info at the top
Look for Privacy and safety or End-to-end encrypted chat
Select Turn off end-to-end encryption if available
If no option appears, start a new regular chat instead
Delete the encrypted conversation if you no longer want to use it
Update Messenger to the latest version if the option is missing
Check Messenger settings for privacy or encrypted chats
Use Facebook Messenger on a device where the setting is available
