Wash your hands
Check the pen label and dose
Make sure the medicine is clear and colorless
Attach a new needle
Remove the outer needle cap and inner needle cap
Perform the flow check if using a new pen
Turn the dose selector to the prescribed dose
Choose an injection site on the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm
Clean the injection site with an alcohol swab
Insert the needle into the skin
Press and hold the dose button until the dose counter returns to 0
Keep the needle in place for at least 6 seconds
Remove the needle from the skin
Put the outer needle cap back on carefully
Unscrew and discard the needle in a sharps container
Replace the pen cap
Store the pen as directed on the package insert or by your pharmacist
Use a new needle for each injection
Do not share the pen with anyone else
