Sit upright and stay calm

Use your prescribed rescue inhaler as directed
Take a slow, steady breath after each inhaler puff
Move away from smoke, dust, strong odors, cold air, or allergens
Drink small sips of water if you can swallow comfortably
Use a humidifier if dry air is triggering symptoms
Rest and avoid strenuous activity
Follow your asthma or breathing action plan if you have one
Seek urgent medical care if wheezing is severe, worsening, or comes with trouble speaking, blue lips, chest pain, or severe shortness of breath
