Cool the burn under cool running water for 20 minutes
Remove rings, watches, or tight clothing near the area
Do not pop the blister
Gently wash the area with mild soap and water
Pat dry with a clean cloth
Apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly or aloe vera
Cover with a sterile, nonstick bandage
Change the dressing daily or if it gets wet or dirty
Keep the area clean and protected from friction
Take over-the-counter pain relief if needed and safe for you
Seek medical care if the blister is large, very painful, on the face, hands, feet, genitals, or over a joint
Seek medical care if there are signs of infection such as redness, swelling, pus, fever, or worsening pain
Seek urgent care for chemical, electrical, or severe burns
