Move away from the area to avoid more stings
Remove the stinger quickly by scraping it out with a fingernail, credit card, or similar flat edge
Wash the area with soap and water
Apply a cold pack or ice wrapped in cloth for 10 to 15 minutes at a time
Raise the affected area if possible
Take an over-the-counter pain reliever if needed
Apply hydrocortisone cream or calamine lotion for itching
Take an oral antihistamine if itching or swelling is mild
Avoid scratching the sting site
Seek emergency help immediately if there is trouble breathing, swelling of the face or throat, dizziness, or widespread hives
Get medical help if swelling worsens, signs of infection appear, or the sting is in the mouth, nose, or eye
