Remove the pit from a ripe avocado and rinse it clean
Identify the top and bottom ends of the pit
Insert 3 to 4 toothpicks around the middle of the pit
Suspend the pit over a glass or jar with the bottom end in water
Place the jar in a warm spot with indirect sunlight
Change the water every few days
Wait for the pit to split and roots to grow
Wait for a stem to emerge from the top
Keep the bottom of the pit in water until roots are well developed
Move the sprouted pit into soil when the stem is several inches tall and roots are strong
