Save pits from ripe cherries
Remove all fruit flesh from the pits
Rinse the pits thoroughly
Dry the pits for a day or two
Place pits in a damp paper towel or moist sand
Seal them in a plastic bag or container
Refrigerate for 10 to 14 weeks
Check occasionally to keep the medium slightly moist
Remove pits when they begin to sprout
Fill pots with well-draining potting mix
Plant each sprouted pit about 1 inch deep
Water lightly
Place pots in a sunny, warm location
Keep soil evenly moist, not soggy
Transplant seedlings outdoors after the last frost
Choose a site with full sun and well-drained soil
Space trees far enough apart for growth
Protect young trees from pests and animals
Water regularly during the first growing season
Wait several years for fruit production
