Sign the title as the seller
Fill in the buyer’s name and address on the title
Record the odometer reading on the title if required
Complete the date of sale on the title
Remove the license plates from the vehicle
Give the buyer the signed title
Provide a bill of sale if needed
Complete the Illinois Vehicle Transaction form if required
Submit the title transfer paperwork to the Illinois Secretary of State if needed
Pay any applicable title transfer fees and taxes
Have the buyer apply for a new title and registration
Keep a copy of the signed title and sale records for your records
