Drink water
Take a brisk walk for 10–20 minutes if you feel well enough
Avoid all sugary foods and drinks
Avoid refined carbohydrates
Check your blood sugar again after a short interval if you monitor at home
Take prescribed diabetes medication exactly as directed
Take prescribed insulin exactly as directed
Do not take extra medication unless your doctor has told you to do so
If you have ketone strips, check ketones when blood sugar is very high
Seek urgent medical help if blood sugar stays very high or you have vomiting, confusion, trouble breathing, severe weakness, or drowsiness
