Pour 1–2 gallons of hot (not boiling) water into the bowl gradually
Add 1 cup baking soda, then 2 cups white vinegar; let sit 30–60 minutes, then flush
Use a toilet auger (closet auger) and rotate to break up the clog
Use a hand drain snake designed for toilets and work gently to avoid damaging porcelain
Create a tight seal with a wet/dry shop vacuum hose to the toilet drain and vacuum in short bursts
Try a wet/dry vacuum for liquid only if the bowl is not overflowing; stop immediately if water rises
Use dish soap: add 1/2–1 cup, wait 15–30 minutes, then flush carefully
Use a commercial toilet unclogger labeled safe for toilets; follow the label directions
If the clog is from a foreign object, remove it with toilet-safe tools (grabber/tongs) while keeping water level low
If the toilet is overflowing or you can’t see/locate the blockage, stop and call a plumber
