Move away from the area to avoid more stings
Remove the stinger quickly by scraping it out with a fingernail, credit card, or similar object
Wash the sting site with soap and water
Apply a cold pack or ice wrapped in cloth for 10 to 20 minutes at a time
Raise the affected area if possible
Take an over-the-counter pain reliever if needed
Apply a topical anti-itch treatment if the area is itchy
Monitor for signs of a severe allergic reaction
Call emergency services immediately if there is trouble breathing, swelling of the face or throat, dizziness, or widespread hives
Use an epinephrine auto-injector right away if prescribed
Seek medical care if the sting is in the mouth, nose, or throat
Seek medical care if swelling, redness, or pain worsens or lasts more than a few days
Seek medical care if multiple stings occurred
Seek medical care if the person is a child, elderly, or has a known allergy to bee stings
