Turn off the engine and remove the key
Put on gloves and safety glasses
Disconnect the negative terminal first
Disconnect the positive terminal second
Inspect the battery for cracks or leaks
Mix baking soda with water
Apply the solution to the corroded areas
Scrub the corrosion with a wire brush or old toothbrush
Wipe away the residue with a clean cloth
Rinse lightly with water if needed
Dry the battery and terminals completely
Clean the cable clamps and terminal posts
Reconnect the positive terminal first
Reconnect the negative terminal second
Tighten the connections securely
Apply battery terminal protectant or petroleum jelly
Check that the battery is stable and secure
