Choose a ripe pomegranate with firm skin and a heavy feel
Wash the fruit and pat it dry
Cut off the crown (top) and score the skin into sections without cutting the arils
Submerge the pomegranate in a bowl of cool water
Gently pull the sections apart to release the arils (seeds)
Separate the arils from the white pith by skimming or using your hands
Drain and rinse the arils if desired
Eat the arils as-is, or add them to salads, yogurt, oatmeal, or smoothies
Store leftover arils in an airtight container in the refrigerator for a few days
