Wash the ginger root thoroughly
Peel the ginger if desired
Slice or grate 1 to 2 inches of ginger root
Add 2 to 3 cups of water to a pot
Add the ginger to the water
Bring the water to a boil
Reduce the heat and simmer for 10 to 20 minutes
Strain the tea into a cup
Add honey, lemon, or other sweetener if desired
Serve hot
