Rest and avoid strenuous activity

Consider acetaminophen (paracetamol) for fever
Consider ibuprofen for fever if age-appropriate and no contraindications
Follow label dosing instructions or clinician guidance
Do not give aspirin to children or teens
Do not take multiple fever medicines containing the same ingredient
Check temperature regularly to monitor response
Seek medical care urgently for: fever in an infant under 3 months
Seek medical care urgently for: trouble breathing, severe headache, stiff neck, confusion, seizures, persistent vomiting, rash, or severe weakness
Seek medical care urgently for: fever lasting more than 3 days in children or more than 3–5 days in adults
Seek medical care if fever is very high (e.g., around 103°F/39.4°C or higher) or returns after improving
Contact a clinician if you are immunocompromised, pregnant, or have significant chronic illness
