How To Lay Wood Flooring?

Acclimate the wood flooring in the room for the manufacturer-recommended time

Check that the subfloor is clean, dry, level, and structurally sound

Remove baseboards, trim, and any existing flooring if needed

Install underlayment or moisture barrier if required

Measure the room and plan the layout

Mark a straight reference line for the first row

Mix planks from multiple boxes to blend color and grain

Start the first row with the tongue or groove facing the correct direction

Leave the required expansion gap around all walls and fixed objects

Secure the first row according to the flooring type

Stagger end joints between rows

Cut planks to fit as needed

Continue laying rows tightly together

Use a tapping block and pull bar to close gaps

Keep checking alignment and spacing as you work

Install the final row by trimming planks to width if necessary

Reinstall baseboards and trim without pinning the floor down

Fill nail holes or touch up as needed

Clean the floor and remove debris

Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the specific flooring system
