Turn off both vehicles
Make sure the jumper cables are not touching each other or any metal parts
Remove the black clamp from the grounded metal on the dead vehicle
Remove the black clamp from the donor vehicle battery
Remove the red clamp from the donor vehicle battery
Remove the red clamp from the dead vehicle battery
Keep the clamps separated after removal
Close the hood and store the cables properly
