How To Change Car Tire?

Park on a level surface and engage the parking brake

Turn on hazard lights

Put the vehicle in Park (or in gear for a manual transmission)

Locate the spare tire, jack, and lug wrench in the vehicle

If equipped, chock the wheels opposite the tire being changed

Loosen the lug nuts slightly (do not remove yet) while the tire is on the ground

Position the jack at the manufacturer-recommended jacking point

Raise the vehicle until the flat tire is fully off the ground

Remove the lug nuts and take off the flat tire

Mount the spare tire onto the hub, aligning the holes with the studs

Hand-tighten the lug nuts in a star/cross pattern

Lower the vehicle until the spare tire contacts the ground

Tighten the lug nuts firmly in a star/cross pattern

Lower the vehicle fully and remove the jack

Fully tighten lug nuts again after a short drive (if recommended by the vehicle manual)

Stow the flat tire, tools, and spare according to the vehicle instructions

Check tire pressure on the spare as soon as possible and replace it when appropriate
