Pull over to a safe, flat location
Turn on hazard lights
Apply the parking brake
Put the car in park or in gear
Place wheel wedges or blocks behind the opposite tire
Remove the spare tire, jack, and lug wrench
Remove the wheel cover or hubcap if needed
Loosen the lug nuts slightly while the tire is still on the ground
Position the jack under the correct lifting point
Raise the car until the tire is off the ground
Remove the lug nuts completely
Take off the flat tire
Mount the spare tire onto the wheel bolts
Hand-tighten the lug nuts
Lower the car until the tire touches the ground
Tighten the lug nuts in a crisscross pattern
Fully lower the car
Tighten the lug nuts again in a crisscross pattern
Reinstall the wheel cover if applicable
Check the spare tire pressure
Drive carefully and have the tire repaired or replaced as soon as possible
