How To Clean A Humidifier?

Unplug the humidifier and empty the water tank

Disassemble the unit (tank, base, wick/filter, cap, any removable parts)

Rinse all parts with clean water

If you have mineral buildup, fill the tank with equal parts white vinegar and water

Let the vinegar solution sit for 30–60 minutes

For heavy buildup, soak longer as needed

Scrub the tank and any removable parts with a soft brush or cloth

Rinse thoroughly with clean water until vinegar smell is gone

Clean the base using vinegar or a 1:1 vinegar-and-water solution (avoid soaking the motor/electronics)

Wipe the base with the solution and wipe dry

If the unit uses a filter or wick, remove it and follow the manufacturer’s instructions

If the filter/wick is reusable, rinse as directed; if disposable, replace it

For stubborn scale, repeat the vinegar soak and rinse again

Disinfect (optional but recommended): soak parts (not electronics) in a diluted bleach solution (1 teaspoon household bleach per 1 gallon of water) for 15–20 minutes

Rinse all disinfected parts very thoroughly with clean water

Dry all parts completely before reassembly

Refill with fresh water (use distilled if recommended by the manufacturer)

Reassemble the humidifier and plug it back in
