Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause in the middle to open the app switcher
Swipe left or right to find the app you want to close
Swipe the app preview up and off the screen
Repeat for any other open apps you want to close
Press the Home button on older iPhone models to exit the app switcher
Note that apps on iPhone usually stay paused in the background unless they are force closed
