Decide the shelf dimensions and cut the wood to size
Cut or purchase a hidden shelf bracket or support system
Mark bracket positions on the wall
Drill pilot holes into the studs
Secure the bracket firmly to the wall with screws
Drill matching holes or channels in the shelf board for the support rods or bracket
Slide the shelf onto the bracket or rods
Check that the shelf is level
Adjust if needed and tighten all fasteners
Fill screw holes or gaps if desired
Sand and finish the shelf surface
Let the finish dry completely before placing items on the shelf
