Remove the screw
Clean out loose wood fibers from the hole
Insert a wooden toothpick, matchstick, or wood dowel with wood glue
Let the glue dry fully
Trim any excess material flush with the surface
Reinsert the screw
Use a slightly longer or thicker screw if needed
Drill a new pilot hole if the original hole is too damaged
Fill the hole with epoxy or wood filler for a stronger repair
Let the repair cure completely before tightening the screw
Avoid overtightening the screw in the repaired hole
