Preheat the grill to medium-low heat
Lightly oil the grill grates
Place bratwurst on the grill over indirect heat
Grill for 15 to 20 minutes, turning occasionally
Move brats over direct heat for the last 2 to 3 minutes to brown the outside
Cook until the internal temperature reaches 160°F
Remove from the grill and let rest for 5 minutes
Serve hot with buns and desired toppings
