Remove the sausage from packaging
Check the label for cooking instructions and internal temperature
Heat a skillet over medium heat
Add a small amount of oil if needed
Place the raw sausage in the skillet
Cook slowly, turning often, until browned on all sides
Reduce heat if the outside browns too quickly
Cover the pan briefly if needed to help cook the center
Continue cooking until the internal temperature reaches 160°F for pork or beef sausage, or 165°F for poultry sausage
Use a meat thermometer to check the thickest part
Remove from heat
Let rest for a few minutes before serving
